Bad day at the Office

SSC travelled to Oakham with their encounter with Rutland Oaks who were high flying at the top opf the table and looking for promotion. SSC quickly went down early on and conceded two early goals, matters got worse as Ken pulled out with an Injury. Nealam scored before the break to give hope but it was the Oak's to punish, scoring 8 goals in the second half and giving SSC the biggest thumping this season.

Market Harborough B Dismiss SSC

SSC looked lively in the plate matches and prior to the match had scored 10 goals in the two plate matches they had played in. Tougher opposition did see them fail at the semi-final stage but a young squad is nearing its peak and SSC can grab trophies to come. MHB won 3-1 with Prabhjoyt claiming the goal. Jeba and Jaspal were wrongfully sent off later in the second half as legs were getting tired.

SSC crush ant eaters

SSC home against Aarvarks, who are not doing too well this season. SSC in a major position to score points after losing the last 2 matches. As soon as the whistle had blown for the first half SSC were in total control of the ball until they got into the D to score the first goal in less then 5 minutes, Jaspal Sev with an impressive goal by overcoming the odds. Aarvarks started getting possession of the ball but couldn’t get close to a goal until nearly the end of the first half where a player had a one on one opportunity to equalise was ruined as Hardev the keeper pulled out and got big and saved it. Then at the second half SSC were still putting the pressure on the opposition and were keeping the ball and passing well. Next came a short corner for SSC and a chance to really put the game under their control, Ken with a dominant shot that went passed the keeper and hit a defenders leg for a penalty Flick, perfect chance. Ken grabbed the second goal getting it right in the bottom right corner to make it 2, to confirm the win. What a way to get back in the game with a win lifting the spirits of the players, another win for SSC at home.

Score SSC 2 - 0 Aarvarks

Scorers: Jaspal (1) and Ken (1)

Ashby Pull one over

SSC travelled to ashby for their encounter with Ashby Mixed who were of rocky form like SSC. Asbhy had the clear cut oppotunities throughiut the first half witht the SSC attack rarely giving the opposing defence to worry about. Before SSC knew it, they were a goal down due to poor marking. The play continued in the same vain and SSC pressurised more as they seemed to come out of their shell. The drive was back in but was instantly put back down by another goal for Ashby. SSC pressured well and a fluent move saw Jaspal clipping the edge of the wheel, but this was going to be the best chance for SSC as they slumped to their 8th defeat of the season. Seven of which have come from away travels. This was the first match this season that SSC have not managed to score at least one goal.

Knights battle to victory

SSC entertained Groby Knight's at home with both teams needing the points. SSC wanted to bring the passion and excitement from their win against the Hobo's to face the knight's. At first the match was even, all chances fell to top goal scorer Jaspal Sev who failed to score ona number of occasions. Quick movements off the ball saw Groby Knight's hit the crossbar and come close several times. Hardev, who was on brilliant form stopped some of the possible goals from leaking in. But the pressure was just too much, SSC let a soft goal in before the half ended. The chances were created but poor fininshing saw SSc concede yet another. No one man mark the opposing player running in and it was a cool slot in to make it Groby Knights 2- 0 SSC. A consulation was grabbed at the nd by Jaspal Sev but it was too little to late for SSC. The pressure in the last 10 minures saw them come close but it wasnt to be.

Cup Match - Bedouin Who-bo's

After a humbling draw with bottom place Market Harborough the week before, SSC were in cup action at Mount Sorrell against Bedwins (Division 1). After a slow start, the young SSC team started to take control of the match, Jaspal Sev continuing his wonderful scoring run with SSC 1-0 up within the first 15minutes. The homeside, then pressured SSC defence & had several shots at goal, but they found Hardev Singh on inspired form in goal! SSC then won, a short corner which was pushed out to Ken Assi who shot on target, only for Bedwin goal keeper "Woody" to save it. The rebound of this save, went towards Hasmunkh Patel who's cougar like reflexes put the ball beyond the goal keeper..who was at this point on the floor! Further pressure was piled on by the young SSC team & another brilliant individual goal from Jaspal Sev, to make it 3-0 to us at half time. Second half continued in the same vain, SSC started slowly, but then picked up the pace - the opposition pressured SSC on rare occasions. Though, one of these occasions, was when Ken Assi was wanted for pace & deliberately fouled the ball & duly got sent off for his troubles, but it was for the teams cause!! The Team coped well, whilst Ken had a good rest, the youngsters coped with the pressure & managed not to concede a goal, Well Done. On Ken's return, SSC won another short corner, which was once again stopped by Ken. A typical Ken shot was "goal-bound" & was deliberately stopped by the Bedwin Defender on the goal line. This duly resulted in a penalty flick, which Ken Assi was going to take (as a regular penalty taker), only to hear Jaspal ask him if he could "complete his hat-trick"! Ken ignored this request for a while just to put added pressure on Jaspal, as he began to walk away (with his mardies) I called him back to take the penalty - this was dispatched with ease & sent the score to 4-0 to SSC. Jaspal had earned his hat-trick - & was then substituted by Ken Assi. This was no reflection on Jaspal's efforts, but it was done to give others a chance to experience a Cup match. Bedwin's scored a consolation goal near the end, to make the result 4-1 to SSC. A special thanks to Hena Assi after playing Ladies Hockey in the morning, to take part in her second match of the day & playing with so much heart & passion - it was much appreciated by all at SSC Mixed hockey Club!. No player of the week this week, as the team performed so well together on Saturday, we've decided that all should be recognised. Thanks to the " TEAM OF THE WEEK" - it has been a joy to play with you all.

Good luck in the semi-final guys & gals!

SSC vs Market Harborough

SSC continued their Jekyll and Hyde season with an away draw to a battling Market Harborough outfit. At times SSC looked dominant, with quick passing, good skill and speed, however other times lacked concentration.
The game started brightly for SSC when Ken Assi opened the scoring with a well-placed shot into the far corner, falling flat on his face whilst doing so, hehe. Hasmukh then added a second to make it 2-0 to SSC. However, a sloppy pass by stand in centre-back Danny gave MH a chance, which they eventually scored from. There looked set to be a comeback, however Hasmukh then scored his second of the game with a strong push underneath the oncoming keeper. MH again hit back, before Ken scored his 12th of the season to make it 4-2 at half time.
SSC began the second half with a very inexperienced line up, with the only two senior players in the squad, on the bench. The lack of experience showed, as MH hit back with a very controversial goal. Ken and Hasmukh then returned to the field, however only to see Jaspal walk the opposite way as he was shown a yellow card for repetitive shoulder barging? The day went from bad to worse for Jaspal, who was then disallowed a goal that would have surely secured all three points for SSC. With seconds left of the game, and SSC defending like lions, the pressure was too much for the young side, who then conceded a fourth, and making the game 4-4 at full time.
However there were positives, a young SSC side showed they could stand on their own two feet, as well as another point on the board of course.

Scrorers : Ken (2), Hasmukh (2)
Cards : Jaspal (yellow)

SSC Arrested

SSC entertained high flying Leicester Police who were currently at the top of the division. SSC were on the back of an enfatic win from last week and the words from the captain was to play the same sort hockey. But it was Police to punish first, quick movements off the ball and a goal was quickly celebrated as the opposing fowards ripped the defence to shreads. SSC attacked well through the midfield but has no end product. The eagles played constructive hockey and made some fine moves in the first half, though no goal was scored. Points were raised at half time that the team should play according to their postions and what was required of that position .Second half came quick for SSC as they raced on and scored through Vicky, cooly slotting the ball from close range. SSC were rewarded for their valiant efforts. But Police struck once again, the SSC defence failing to clear the ball after two attempts and were punished. It looked as if SSC were going to drop 3 points but and indiviual run from top goal scorer , Jaspal Sev scored his 18th of the season. It looked as if SSC were heading for the draw, which they throughly desreved. But poor clearing saw them give away a 'sissy' goal which police didnt really deserve. It wasnt SSC's day but they played well at times and can learn alot from the game.

Eagles VS Kestrels - a bird faceoff

SSC eagles travelled away for their heated encounter with the Kestrels. Earlier on in the season, SSC netted 5 against them, winning the match 5-0 but they also fell to defeat as the kestrels were out for revenge, beating SSC 3-1 in the first round of the cup. The two earlier matches set the third one up nicely. SSC didnt start well at all, conceding 3 short corners in a row in the first 10 minutes. But it was SSC to score first with a short corner. Ken placing the ball low and hard pass the goalkeeper. SSC found themselves 2-0 infront, a couple of minutes later with another short corner, this time Jaspal passing the ball square to Ken who fininshed off the ball smartly, have SSC finally sorted out their short corners! Ken went into double figures for the season with that finish. Jaspal then dropped back to left wing as Vicky moved up to centre foward as SSC were a player down. The move of the game saw Jaspal hold the ball up while Hasmukh ran riot on the left wing, Hasmukh got the ball and played a beautiful one two with Ed, Hasmukh finnished of neatly, SSC were in complete control of the game going into the second half. It took SSC a while to get the grips in the second half. Both teams pressurised well but it was Ed, Hena and Neelam shining at that moment as the trio were running circles on the right wing. A scuffle in the second half saw Ken involved with one of the opposing players, play was quickly resumed but a goal was conceded from the anger. SSC were still 3-1 up but some fine movements off the ball saw SSC clinch a desreved 4th, with Jaspal snatching at the ball twice and putting it in with the second chance. Yet another scuffle saw Sati get sent off by reacting voilently to a challange on Jaspal. Overall, SSC played the much better hockey and desereved the win

Scorers: Ken (2), Hasmuhk (1) and Jaspal (1)

Cards : Sati (yellow)

Happy New Year - SSC 6 - 0 BRS

SSC Eagles entertained a high flying forth division side, Baggies Red Socks. SSC fielded a young side for the plate crunch match with a number of senior players absent.SSC got off to a strong start with a short corner. 3 minutes into the match and SSC were off to a dream start. Jaspal scoring his 14th of the seasona with a deft deflection from ken's shot on goal. More pressure was applied during the 1st half with the baggies rearly attacking. The strong right wing was doing its job perfectly. Tejpal, who hadn't played for 5 years showed great skill and character plying beautiful, simple hockey .A counter-attack saw Neelam pass the ball to Hena who launched a pin-point ball to Jaspal, who was in acre's of space due to the pass. One defender was back and a smart dribbling move opened the goal out, he slotted in his 2nd of the game, giving SSc a deserved 2-0 lead. This was said to be the attack of the game with Ken commenting on the fluency and punishment of the quick raid. By this time everyone was playing brilliant, relaxed hockey by passing and keeping it simple yet effective. Ed held the midfield together along with Hasmukh to give an even spread of attack and defence. The left side of the team played brilliantly throughout, with Sandeep keeping it solid in defence and Maddy, Emma and Prabhjoyt pumping foward when needed. The twins, At and Nim confused the opposition with unpredictable passing that led to goal scoring chances. The substitutions were fluent and effective. Late into the first half a pass from Nim found Jaspal at the edge of the 'D', he dribbled around 3 players and slotted in his 3rd and his 16th of the season, only one behind his record 17 from last season. Half time team talk was positive with good vibes present. Another short corner was won by Jaspal, he was given the chance to take it too. He played Ken in who showed no mercy and scored his 8th of the season giving SSC a 4-0 lead.Second half was all about SSC, a baggies attack was a rareity and SSC pounced with a clever goal from Neelam who sqeezed into the limlight with her 2nd of the season. A contraversial last goal saw Jaspal reverse hit it into the goal with Neelam celebrating , the goal was given to Neelam in the end. The game ended 6-0 to the young SSC squad who showed great character and tremendous skill.

Druck Druck Goose

SSC were away to Druck who before the game were 10 points behind and looking at relegation straight in the face. The eagles started off average with poor passing letting them down. It was Druck to punish with Sati not dealing with the oppposing striker who was bearing down. He finished off smartly, long long later a mistake from Hardev handed Druck an early christmas present and they were soon celebrating their second of the game. SSC didnt lose hope and a good counter attack saw Jaspal snapping at the oppportunity to score SSC's first of the game. it was soon half time and the vibes were getting stronger. SSC dominated but could not finish as Druck rarely attacked but when they did, they were given a contraversial goal where some of the SSC's players thought that the ball was struck from outside the 'D'. The goal still stood. A change in the line up saw Jaspal coming off for Jeba. He worked the ball well picking out Danny and Hena on the right. Momments later he struck will reliable decisivness and gave SSC some hope of clinching something from this fustrating game, but it wasnt to be. Druck celebrated only their 2nd win of the campaign while the SSC camp looked at straight down the whole of a back to back defeat, lets just hope that the new year will bring some luck.

Scorers: Jaspal (1), Jeba (1)

Westleigh pump the pressure

S.S.C Vs Leicester westleigh potentially a tough game. With some players absent, S.S.C were forced to change both the line up and the formation, the biggest change a two man wing/centre forward role (Harman/Ed).The call from the captain was to play tight not play silly hockey. Following the push back, Westleigh were the quickest out the blocks taking an early lead and then gathering a good lead going into half time. To an extent the new formation worked well but lacked some 'bite' so Harman (who played very well) was swapped for amnish, immediately the subbing had an effect with some bright play, unfortunately S.S.C couldn't reap the rewards, goals-wise.
Half time, the captains call was to stop the silly passes and put them onto the players stick and GET MORE SHORT CORNERS! The line-up was changed with Danny falling back to centre back and Hasmukh & Ken moving to centre mid.Again, Westleigh were quickest out of the blocks, gathering more goals. But S.S.C'S heads never dropped, an effective period where both Hasmukh and Avnish scored, funnily enough from short corners. The seniors skill and experiance stabilised the midfield. Not to mention S.S.C hitting the posts a number of times. Westleigh then killed the game at 6-2 when play was stretched but credit where credits due the youthful back line showed stability and a set of cool heads.Despite the score you couldn't doubt the effort; 100% from all players.Well Played everyone.

Scorers: Hasmukh (1), Avnish (1)

National Assi Day

SSC Eagles predicted a easy match ahead of the plate clash with Groby Road Hospitals who lie 3rd from bottem in the 4th division. The team was on high from the 4-0 win last week and expected the same strong play against 'Hozzys'. The match took along time to get into with SSC giving away a few short corners earlier on, just as the last game. But still the defence looked strong with Neelam playing exceptionally well in her orthadox position. Sandip sttod her ground and Sati looked stable, but at times had a few of his runs blocked, not by the oppostion but by his own fitness. The goal came soon midway through the first half with Jaspal winning a short corner. Ken stood up to take it and hi it firm, Jaspal was on hand to get the rebound and he was soon celebrating his 11th of the season. The interval came quick and it was obvious that even though we were playing good hockey, there was no end product. Ken decided to stick with the team to carry on into the second half. SSC were all over the hospitals with the 'hozzys' on having the ball on scattered occasions. The counter attack was going to be the main source of goals and when Jaspal sprung he won another short corner this time Ken smashing the ball into the bottem right hand corner, showing the oppostion no mercy and also celebrating his 7th of the season. SSC continued to dominate with Emma,Vicky and Maddy attcaking well on the left, and Hena and Danny pushing up on the right. A good move saw Hasmukh gain the ball on the side line and passing the ball to Jaspal who threaded the ball to Hena. Her determination overcame and as soon as that ball crushed the back board, she hugged Neelam in sheer happiness as this was the first EVER goal she had scored, and well it was a long time coming. Lets just hope that we dont have to wait this long for the second! After the 3rd goal, SSC stepped off the gas and it was the turn of the 'hozzys' to rarely attack. They did punish some tired defending and celebrated a consulation goal. The match ended 3-1 in favour of SSC but day was overshadowed with the goals from the Assi's!

Scorers: Jaspal (1), Ken (1) and Hena (1)

ROLLING BACK THE YEARS

SSC Eagles entertained third from bottem side, Syston Saints. The game got off to a shakey start after a number of short conrners were given against us. Luckily a goal was dissallowed for the visiting team and play resumed with SSC taking more control of the game. A couple of breakthroughs in the first half saw SSC come close but it was midway when they struck. Jaspal Sev winning the penalty flick and Ken Assi converting after an allteration between the opposing keeper. SSC continued to push foward and were rewarded with another goal this time coming from Jaspal Sev who had a nice 1-2 movement with Hasmukh and finished off with a reverse strike just before the interval. The second half was as good as the first with the team talk obviously working. Ken Assi threaded a ball to Jaspal Sev who beat a defender and slammed it past the goalkeeper. But the goal did not stand, controvesially. As Jaspal And Danny were subbed off, Ed and Jeba came on. Immediantly the experience shone through as the three senior midfielders linked up well and moved the ball around with purpose. One move saw Jeba linking well with Ed and Jaz, riping past two defenders, bringing the ball on to his stronger side and beating the ball in the lower corner. For a goal celebration Sati ran from the back (not because Jaspal got into a tussle) but to hug Jeba as this was his First goal at since turning 50. A sentimental moment. A classic finish from a class player. More pressure was put on as SSC searched for a 4th and it finally came in the last minutes of the match with Jaspal and danny linking up well and Jaspal winning a freehit outside the 'D' from an atrocious challenge. Hasmukh took it quick and Jaspal hit it first time (yes first time) as the goalkeeper parried, Vicky was on hand to score her first goal since having a long time off. Woman of the match went to Neelam, she just did not stop running! She defended and attacked when needed and stuck to her task very well. WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
